South Cheshire College has celebrated a key milestone in its new campus development at a topping out ceremony.

Cheshire East Mayor Margaret Simon and Crewe Mayor Dorothy Flude joined College Principal Peter Swift and Chair of the Corporation Board Ken Lea at the special event.

During the ceremony the final planters were laid on the roof of the new building C which are just one of the environmental sustainability elements of the new campus.

The following pictures show the view of the new steelwork from the back of the Dane Bank Restaurant. The majority of steelwork you can see in these shots is of buildings D and E.

A pre-cast lift shaft is also being installed in building C which is further to the right. We should hopefully have more shots of alternative views of the new structure, including shots from within the main construction area itself, in the next few weeks.

As you can see, the new steelwork is now quite prominent behind the copse of trees as you look across from the upper floors of the tower block building.

A phenomenal amount of work has taken place on the structure over the past few weeks and you can start to gain a much clearer insight into the size and structure of the new building.

As you look across from the upper floors of the Tower Block building, you'll notice that the first sections of the new steelwork are starting to rise up from behind the copse of trees.

This gives you an idea of the scale of the new building and it's exciting to see the structure starting to take shape.

South Cheshire College’s Director of Operations and Curriculum Support Nigel Peet, right, shows off a model of the new college to Crewe & Nantwich Mayor Brian Silvester and Lady Mayoress Sheila Davies.

To mark the start of our new campus construction we staged a special community celebration event on January 21st 2009.
A wide cross-section of the Crewe and Nantwich public came along to take a closer look at plans for the exciting development and learn more about the project at the College’s Dane Bank Avenue site.
As well as showcasing up-to-date plans and providing general information about the project, the event was also an opportunity for different college curriculum areas and facilities to showcase their work.
Hair and beauty, sport, travel and tourism and construction were just some of the areas that staged displays to provide information and highlight their plans for the new build.
The College’s Starting Point Child Care Centre, which is the first building to be re-built and is set to be completed by September 2009, also offered information about its service and new facility.
Up to 100 members of the community, including local councillors and Crewe and Nantwich Mayor Brian Silvester attended the celebration in the College’s Café Chill.
BAM Construction, which is the main building contractor working on the project, also had a display stand at the exhibition featuring plans and photographs.

Ground Breaking Day - December 1st 2008

Following the demolition of the Somerville Building the piling augers have arrived on site. The Mayor, Brian Sylvester, and our MP, Edward Timpson are using their ceremonial shovels to break the ground on the spot of the first pile. The ground was frozen but we did see the surface break. Afterwards the group moved to the college piano bar to hear a speech by Ken Lea, the Chair of Governors of the college.The picture below shows the Mayor, MP, Councillor Dorothy Flude, members of the college governing body and Senior Management Team and BAM Construction.
